Building Team Alignment and Opening a New Chapter

Professional Development Association in Canada (PDAC) | Building Team Alignment and Opening a New Chapter
“A team is not a group of people who work together. A team is a group of people who trust each other.” — Simon Sinek
A great team is more than a group of talented and passionate individuals. It is a group of people who are willing to sit down together, get to know one another, understand different perspectives, and envision the future they want to create together.
On October 16, PDAC held the first Leadership Team Strategy Workshop of its new chapter, bringing together our new leadership team for open and honest conversations to realign our direction and explore the future of the association.
Starting with Getting to Know Each Other and Building Genuine Team Connection Our team members come from diverse professional backgrounds, bringing different experiences, perspectives, and expectations. This diversity is one of PDAC’s greatest assets, giving us the opportunity to explore the association’s future from multiple perspectives.
Rather than rushing into discussions about how many events we should organize, we took the time to sit down and have meaningful, open conversations:
Sharing our personal journeys, values, and reasons for joining PDAC
Clarifying our current team dynamics, strengths, and challenges
Aligning expectations and understanding different perspectives
Beginning to shape a shared vision and direction for PDAC’s future
Only when we understand one another can we build alignment. And only when we share a common direction can we truly move forward together.
Capturing Our New Chapter Through Professional Team Portraits Alongside our strategic conversations, we arranged professional individual headshots and a team portrait to capture this new chapter of PDAC — symbolizing togetherness and commitment.
We also made room for the human side of teamwork by celebrating the birthdays of our members and presenting official appointment certificates. These moments recognized and appreciated everyone’s willingness to take on responsibilities, contribute their time, and grow alongside the association.
A photograph captures a moment. An appointment certificate represents responsibility and commitment. And an honest conversation can become an important starting point for a team’s next chapter.
What’s Next: Turning Team Alignment into Strategic Action This first workshop marks an important starting point for PDAC’s next stage of team development and strategic planning.
At our next meeting, we will focus on:
Strategy Alignment: Identifying PDAC’s strategic priorities and future direction.
Team Collaboration: Clarifying roles, responsibilities, and how we can work together more effectively.
Annual Planning & Budgeting: Translating our agreed-upon strategies into annual action plans, resource allocation, and budgets.
We envision a future in which PDAC does more than organize events. We want to establish a distinctive identity, understand the needs of our target audiences, and deliver programs and services that create meaningful and lasting impact.
We also hope to create a legacy for the next generation. By connecting industry, academia, and the business community, we aim to foster cross-sector collaboration, exchange expertise and resources, help more people strengthen their workplace skills, expand their career opportunities, and lower the barriers to entering the workforce.
Our vision is to make professional expertise more than an individual asset — transforming it into a force for mutual support, collective growth, and meaningful community impact.
A New Chapter. New Connections. New Possibilities. Thank you to every board member for your participation, openness, and commitment.
The future of PDAC will be built step by step by people who are willing to understand one another, share responsibility, and work toward a common purpose.
From getting to know one another to building alignment; from shaping a shared vision to turning it into action.
Together, let’s transform our diverse expertise and passion into meaningful services that create real value for our members, workforce professionals, and communities — and build a more impactful future for PDAC!
